Program Overview

Information derived from data is important to the management, productivity and differentiation of an organization. Data must be efficiently collected, organized, retrieved and managed to make it meaningful to the organization. It is the role of the information technology professional to develop, deploy, manage and integrate data and information systems to support the organization. This knowledge area includes the collection, organization, modeling, transformation, presentation, safety and security of the data and information. Graduates will qualify for the entry-level positions of Database Administrators, Data Architects, Data Modelers and Data Analysts.

Program Objectives

The objective of the Certificate in Information Management-Database Administration program is to:

  1. Prepare students to use computer technology for solving real-world business issues in information systems.

  3. Prepare students with the technical knowledge and critical-thinking skills needed in the workplace.

    Graduates of the Certificate in Information Management-Database Administration program will be prepared to:
    1. Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of information technology and information systems and their importance and impact in business and society.
    2. Apply the computer concepts and skills learned to solve business problems.
    3. Understand the significant role the database plays in the business environment and to design, develop, and maintain data.
    4. Understand the role of project management, the feasibility and planning a project, and the tools used in managing a project.
    5. Understand the ethical and societal concerns regarding computer technology.

    Program Requirements

    The Certificate in Information Management-Database Administrator program requires 36 credit hours for graduation. A full-time student may complete the program in 3 semesters.
